Hunting Background

Years Hunting
A few, the early years were a mess. Did a number of stupid things because we didn't know any better. It was through a lot of trial and error that we became proficient. Learned most things the hard way, and put a lot of time in the field. Teethed on public lands and have a great appreciation for it.
First Bird
Spoony. We were inexperienced and had no guidance. It was a long day in hot weather with no food or drink to boot. Was sick the night before too, and slept in a terrible position in the truck. After wandering around most of the morning and day, mouth whistled in some spoonies with no decoys in the afternoon. Of course, we didn't have calls either. We also had no money for the drive home. Friend had a crazy two dollar check in his wallet for some reason that we convinced the gas station operator to take. I think he felt sorry for us. Made it home on luck and fumes.
Why Like Hunting
Love the outdoors, and every facet of waterfowl hunting. Always up for a good challenge, and the opportunity to try and outwit the birds. Public lands offer a lot, but time in the field is important. I like being in the field, so it is a good fit.
Techniques / Strategies
Believe in the basics, and feel that by implementing them day in and day out it will get you to your end goal most of the time. The little things matter. Miss a number of the little things and your success rate goes right out the door.
Hunting Style
Primarily puddlers. Over the years have become more interested in quality hunts versus quantity. Like playing with the geese too.

we run around 350-400 sillos, adding around 250 rags this year, a home built e-caller that will have you listingng to snowes in your sleep for a few days, some DD flyers, maybe adding a couple vortex rigs this season, and I want to add jak-kites but not sure if they are are better than real wings or not

Have ran some mallard jack-kites some time ago. Always had problems getting them to track in a perfect flight...

It has been a crazy race to the finish. It feels like I have been on a hamster wheel! Truck is covered in mud. Time to dig out and re-group. Have some interesting things to share.
